Somehow, somewhere
Someone’s dreams are pulverised
The suckling robbed of toothless smiles
Molested and badly brutalised
A pool of anguish in their eyes
So why do we howl about minor glitches
When a wound somewhere is too wide for stitches?
.
Somewhere, somehow
someone’s taking a last gulp of life
Misery vacuums an unborn, despised
Family planning mishaps, surmised
As tympanum echo with muted replies
So why do we pine over the price of oil
When a soul somewhere won’t even go a mile?
.
Somehow, somewhere
someone’s plunging to their demise
A livelihood ransacked by lies
Hearts ripped and discarded like old auto parts
Taste buds drool with bittersweet retorts
So why do we mope over an ingrate who left
When a home somewhere is ravaged by distress?
.
Somewhere, somehow, someone needs our help
So why should we become so obsessed with self?

This poem is so wrought with the truth of the human condition of self-absorption…. thanks for this post!
Arioso
Yes, only too sad.

Oh, how powerful this is! I often ponder on this very subject and wish I could just stitch everyone’s wounds, but as you say, they are “too wide for stitches”… But even though we can’t completely solve the problems of our world, we can show love to those who are hurting; and everyone is hurting in their own way. Another beautiful work:) Definitely reblogging:) I’ve missed reading your posts, and can’t wait to get caught back up on everyone’s writings!

Such true words!!
I am raging like the waters of Niagara Falls unhappy with the world so cruel ..
But the awareness of what is going on around brings the actions .. your poem is simply amazing!
Arioso
Ahh, thanks a lot Malgosia
I woke up one night with the thought in my head and I simply decided to put on paper. If we would only pause more often to think of the ills happening around us we’d be more grateful or all we have while learning to be more compassionate as well. The statistics are alarming, this world needs healing!

Very powerful words.
