"If you look deep enough, you'll see music!" Thomas Carlyle

Haiku II

With heat so intense

Hearts are melting into one

Cocktail of desires

Somewhere, Somehow

Somehow, somewhere

Someone’s dreams are pulverised

The suckling robbed of toothless smiles

Molested and badly brutalised

A pool of anguish in their eyes

So why do we howl about minor glitches

When a wound somewhere is too wide for stitches?

.

Somewhere, somehow

someone’s taking a last gulp of life

Misery vacuums an unborn, despised

Family planning mishaps, surmised

As tympanum echo with muted replies

So why do we pine over the price of oil

When a soul somewhere won’t even go a mile?

.

Somehow, somewhere

someone’s plunging to their demise

A livelihood ransacked by lies

Hearts ripped and discarded like old auto parts

Taste buds drool with bittersweet retorts

So why do we mope over an ingrate who left

When a home somewhere is ravaged by distress?

.

Somewhere, somehow, someone needs our help

So why should we become so obsessed with self?

Tribute to the Perfect Stranger

A-silhouette-of-a-lady

Jabbing at the tattered page, frustrated at my lot

How the camaraderie once was tight

but now the beauty is forgot

and I assess my plight

Whoa, I assess my plight

Hissing at the circumstance, calculating loss

Of fragile poesies that would fade

as blotch of ink swept across

the memories we made

Aye, the memories we made

Sighing at dashing hopes, duty now has won

Obliged that we must sever ties

in homage to the beloved one

And I muffle my cries

Yea, I muffle my cries

Arioso

Bound by Solitaire

Resistance is futile
But she’s quite content
To be lured
and moored
by the brawn of tender-loving arms
Oh, to be espoused by his princely charm

Red-orange flames burn
From fervour in their hearts
With eyes closed
their smiles froze
Pores erect upon satin sun-kissed skin
as they revel in the melody of a cardiac din

Wine-tasting spree
As filled crystals clink
and raise
to praise
the powers that fused their will and voice
Then lips sync to relish their starter of choice

The true feast impends
When two lie in brazen ministry
To tease
and please
the appetence aroused with mutual stare
Now that they’re bound by striking solitaire

The Ripple Effect

lovers-on-the-river-mario-colasante

Mario Colasante @fineartamerica.com

Plop! in the middle of the ravine

a polished pebble creates a wave of awe

Stirred surface, and rings begin to spread

throughout the valley, to tell of what they saw

.

Exhilaration in the hillside trees

as they, too, pick up on the storyline

Jittery leaves catch the wind passing by

then gesticulate what is on their mind

.

A lone bird met upon the party

and fled to greet a cheerful swarm

Soon butterflies and trails of honeybees alight

with news of Belle in her fiancé’s arm

.

A tender warmth glistens in her eyes

as she sculpts their affection in the sand

Together, they make ripples come alive

when her love releases a nugget from his hand

Arioso

Fluent Therapy

Trickle, trickle down the pane

Somber nimbus weeping rain

Potent hypnosis as driblets sweep

Now there’s no need `to tally sheep

.

Fickle, fickle eyelids flutter

Muddy streams rush to the gutter

Scenes fill wells behind closed eyes

As bleak disperse in star-less skies

.

Fluent therapy lulling me

And I drift off to a virtual sea

Soon the thunderous fit subsides

Into unruffled dreams of evening tides

Arioso

Rewritten

The spillage of a fountain pen

Sketched a tainted heart and then

Forged my name in bloody ink

To stain my pride or so they think

.

Laced with rage, the page displayed

Bold letterings with spite arrayed

Showcasing dark deserted soul

on freeway to Hades with hiked toll

.

But then the epilogue of disgrace

Lost its power as if it were erased

The thought of it provoked a laugh

Since the ogre wrote his epitaph

.

Departed he is and so shall remain

A prodigy has now buried the pain

And he rewrote the horror story

Dark replaced with morning glory

Arioso

Weightless

Loftier than the wisps of cirrus on high

We’re falling into each other,

No black holes in this sky

Worries vaporise like a meteor

Weightless,

defining who we are

We bear upon the rise and fall

of the ocean wall

Concerted trajectory,

we must remain in orbit

As the crescent floats in respite

Weightless

Two stars in  equilibrium,

A metaphysical conundrum

Arioso

Smiles now Bloom in Spring

Lighthearted petals, unfolding wide

Reveal filaments of innocent pride

While delicate fragrances sing

Smiles now bloom in Spring

.

The grace that falls from poufs of love

Makes stigma rear their heads above

To lavish praise and laud the King

For smiles now bloom in Spring

.

The gardener’s expert fingers

Apply quickening touch that lingers

Then extend his signet ring

That gleams as smiles that bloom in Spring

If I…

11. Arya, Braj Mohan - Nature With Lovers III

If I could reach into the heavens to anchor the sun

Or go to the poles of the globe, I would run

To paint you a rainbow and sop up the rain

If it meant that I could efface all your pain

.

If I could walk on the ocean or withhold the mist

Or subdue storms and seize the wind in my fist

Then release it again when you can’t find the shade

If it meant that provisions for joy would be made

 .

If I could descend into the heart of the earth

And conquer the grave for all the hell that it’s worth

I’d give you forever sealed with a kiss

If it meant that we’d both have perpetual bliss

.

But since I can’t do any of these things, I just wish

That giggles and glee will still brim your dish

When  your table is set, you will bask in it all

And I’ll always be here for you when you call

Nuptial Bliss

An elegant train streaming down the aisle

To meet the spruced gent, waiting eagerly

To taste the flavour of the damsel’s smile

As soon as he unveils the mystery

.

Her beauty hid by the trousseau she wears

Makes brisk heartbeats gaily anticipate

The duets they’ll witness, throughout the years

When twain infuse and both their joys inflate

.

A round of cheers preps the enlivened groom

To swear before the audience with pride

To love her till the day they seal his tomb

As he adorns the finger of his bride

.

She gives a lingering tear-joy response

Then he savours the saccharin at once

Billows of Certainty

She licked the brine from her lips

As she spilt the pain of her ordeal

Billows rolled in fury and empathy

As she held a gaze the numb could feel

She had been a rock since birth

But the ocean lapped against the edges

Until defenses crumbled slowly

Into sediments of self bound pledges

 ~

Currents of the mighty seas conglomerate

Sweeping o’er a path of retaliation

A thirsty barren soul inundated

In a refreshing mix of amity and elation

Brilliant blue waves rolled that fateful day

But with a sense of certainty

That she would gaze into his eyes

From then until eternity

Realm in REM

dreaming

Tranquility in tandem with my thoughts

As I waft into a realm unknown

Where a life convict assumes release

And a plebeian may don a crown

Gravity’s hold is feeble there

Flesh and spirit are much the same

A soul gallivants just anywhere

And no one even needs a plane

Things that life would never grant

Now a guerdon making views expand

So the undiscerning clearly sees

The Deity crafting life, firsthand

That realm in REM will always be

Concocting salve for tear-less eyes

And blistered aching nomads’ feet

Find solace till they greet sunrise

Resting Place

rest your head

Rest your head upon my shoulder

I will help you oust your fears

We won’t sweep them neath the carpet

With a power vac, they’ll disappear

 –

Rest your head upon my chest

I will help unload your cares

We won’t stack them in the freezer

An oven’s lit, we’ll toss them there

 –

When your fears are gone and cares are charred

Your head will leave its resting place

Then my heart and amiable desires

Will rest with you in faith and grace

Sitting in Mid Air

Sitting in mid air

Swaying with the cords upon which we hang

In constant motion but not getting anywhere

Gazing into an arena where nightingales once sang

Beguiled by the haze, we toss each earthly care

~

Sitting in mid air

Soaring above a spate of misery

Unleashed upon a darkened sphere below

Reaching hands toward a disc of certainty

That shines a light so serenity will grow

~

Sitting in mid air

Baffled by the pain of calloused palm

Clutching merely onto the fragile strings

A sudden gale purposely disrupts the calm

An awakening that existence often brings

Ethos: Shifting Gears

quest for good manners

Disdain is the new fad strutting the runway

Sending favour and mores to take their chairs

Ladies flex their arms to swing doors open

And toes trampled sore and met by sneers

Flippancy is the new favourite pastime

Someone slips and we choke in laughter’s phlegm

No one cares that youths are out of order

And elders dare not try to order them

Debauchery is a fresh trend in the streets

As fashionistas flaunt faux pas in crowd

Nursery rhymes scream lewd, in the name of rap

As swearing juveniles play ‘hiTunes’ too loud

I wonder where these trends will lead us

What will life be like in fifty years?

Will the world self-destruct or be recreated

Or will ethos continue shifting gears?

A soul in limbo

Grinding enamel and uprooting locks

Bound in the prism of destiny, misfortune hijack sanity

And the former years elope with mirth

Forsaking the love-child of faithfulness

A quirk in the timeline of her existence

~

A soul in limbo

Writhing as grief gropes the bare posture of change

Will her love remain unfeigned

Amid the air of phoniness and frigid hearts?

She gave all from the vaults of virtue

Yet, nothingness was now all she could embrace

I’m not conceited, nope

Your perception is flawed

My idiosyncrasies stand out

So why won’t you applaud?

~

I’m never opinionated

I’m just always right

So why are you irritated

And seething with spite?

~

I am understanding

You’re just too dull to see

Stop being so demanding

Dare you contend with me?

Are you talking to self, dear?

No mom! I’m still on the phone

Shhh, s-s-s-so what? it’s clear

Vanishhh, you woeful lil’ clone!

Thieving Hearts

Heaving, whirling

The soul astir

Oscillating thoughts and broken voice

Shattering as if it were

A porcelain vessel hammered by choice

***

Assaulting, crippling

The battery of silence

Kindling pleas and bloodshot eyes

Fluttering to dispense

A trickle of pain serenading cries

 ***

Gripping, asphyxiating

The stigma of a last breath

Thieving hearts and tearing holes

Gaping and bereft

A ménage’s pocket robbed of kindred souls

Splinters of life

A fission of leisure and strife

Reflected from splinters of life

Shattered soul symbolize

But a resilient slivered will

Fist, doubled still

Life oozing through her veins

Face grimaced and stained

Canst the shards deflect her pain?

Within this restless hour

Dost a mirror monopolize pow’r?

When will the warfare end?

How will she break the trend?

No reflection, no despair

Gaze, constant, in the air

Soul-seeking, deep inside

A standard, redefined

Who’ll deliver me?

Rapunzel was rescued

From a wretched tower

Snow White was saved

well-nigh the grave

Cindy got lucky

In the midnight hour

Now who’ll deliver me

From this amnion cave?

Taking my hand

The suave gentleman smiled

His face astoundingly coy

Like an innocent child

It showed me his life and the places he’s been

And inquired of my dreams and the life I’ve seen

~

I stared in his eyes

And saw blue waves rolling

My heart’s response

Was a church bell tolling

~

Giving me time

The kind gentleman stood

In that moment I froze

Like a panicked deer would

His expression was worth all the years I’ll live

And a thumping conferred all the love I’d give

~

I stared in his eyes

and heard foghorns blaring

My brain’s response

Was, “girl, stop staring!”

~

Just as my eyes dropped

He gently lifted my chin

And confirmed in that moment

Just what he’d been thinkin’

His response welled my eyes as dimpled cheeks avowed

“You’re such a cute baby and you’ll make mama proud!”

Listen to Your Heart

Image

Keenly, in the blaring silence

I learned to listen with my heart

When all’s too still and ears retire

A trumpeting conscience plays its part

~

I learned to listen to my heart

As its booming got too loud to stifle

And all  I’ve tried, there’s no escaping

It’s like the superego seized a rifle

The conductors of our hearts will lead us

To learn the tempo of sound choice

And so we mustn’t mute the proddings

Of a cacophonic inner voice

 In the beginning

Was the word

That offset a chronicle in return

Goals scrawled pompously absurd

Dictating what we seek or spurn

~

Daydreams

So dutifully illustrated

On each page during waking hours

Notes from a lover, clearly dated

And transcribed from distant shores

~

Secrets veiled

Behind leather ware

Nuzzle betwixt crisp sheets, contrite

Bidding for permanent residence where

Incubus freely roams at night

~

The shades and hues

Signify life’s display

Impressed on us as each tinge arrives

And variegated streaks of heart overlay

On the graphic pages of our lives
